Best time to visit Rhodes: low season vs high season for riders

Rhodes is one of the sunniest islands in Europe, with a riding season that runs far longer than most visitors expect. Our pricing follows two simple periods every year: High Season from 1 June to 30 September and Low Season from 1 October to 31 May. Here is what each one feels like on two or four wheels.

High season (June – September)

• Weather: hot and dry, 30°C and above in July and August, almost no rain. Sea temperature at its best in August and September.
• Riding: start early, rest at midday, ride again after 17:00. Long daylight until around 20:30 in June and July.
• Crowds: Lindos, the Old Town and Faliraki are busiest from 11:00 to 16:00. A scooter lets you skip the parking queues; see our Lindos guide.
• Booking: demand is high; book your vehicle in advance, especially the 400cc scooter and the ODESS 650cc ATV for two adults.

Low season (October – May)

• Autumn (October – November): our favourite. Warm sea, 22–27°C, quiet beaches, golden light. Occasional rain showers from late October.
• Winter (December – February): mild but changeable, 12–16°C, wind and rain days. Great for the Old Town and mountain villages on a bright day; check the forecast and dress warmly.
• Spring (March – May): the island turns green, wildflowers everywhere, 18–25°C by May. The west coast loop and the Valley of the Butterflies area are at their most beautiful.
• Prices: lower daily rates and much easier availability.

Which vehicle for which season

In high summer a scooter with storage for water and a hat is ideal for town and coast; the quad is better for gravel tracks and two adults. In spring and autumn, when the weather can change during the day, pack a light windproof layer whichever you choose.
