Scooter or ATV in Rhodes? How to choose the right rental for your holiday

Almost every guest asks us the same question at the counter: "scooter or ATV?" There is no wrong answer, but there is a right one for you. After a few thousand rentals in Rhodes, here is how we explain the difference.

Comfort and distance

A 125cc scooter is perfect around Rhodes town, Ixia, Ialyssos and Faliraki: light, nimble, easy to park. For Lindos (about 50 km) or the west coast, a 300–400cc maxi scooter is the comfortable choice — bigger seat, wind protection, more storage and effortless cruising at road speed. The 650cc ATV is the most relaxed way to cover long distances two-up: a wide seat, automatic gearbox and a very stable ride that lets you look at the view instead of the road surface.

Two people and luggage

Couples who ride together all day tend to love the ATV: both of you sit comfortably, and a small backpack with towels fits easily. On a maxi scooter the passenger is also fine, with a helmet in the under-seat storage. On a 125cc, two adults plus beach gear is doable for short hops, less so for a full-day loop.

Parking

Scooters win: they slip into a gap in Lindos or next to the Old Town walls where nothing else fits. The ATV takes roughly the space of a small car, but every beach and village we recommend has car parks where it goes in without stress.

Licence

Scooters up to 125cc need an A1 (or higher) licence, up to 300cc an A2, above 300cc a full A licence. The ATV is driven with an ordinary car licence (B) — which is why so many guests without a motorcycle licence choose it. Full details in our rental guide.

Price

Scooters start lower per day, the ATV costs more but is shared by two. Prices depend on season; the exact daily rate for your dates shows live on each vehicle page in our fleet, with helmets, insurance and island-wide delivery included.

Our honest pick

  • Solo rider, town and beaches nearby: 125cc scooter.
  • Couple doing Lindos, the east coast and the west loop: 300–400cc maxi scooter if you hold the licence, otherwise the ATV.
  • Two people who want to sit back and enjoy the island: the ODESS 650cc ATV.
  • Family with a car: one scooter for the parents' evening escapes.
